In Progress: Jennings Lodge Sewer Improvement Project - Phase 2
In May, we finished the first phase of a major sewer upgrade in Jennings Lodge. The second phase is scheduled to begin in August 2025 and is expected to conclude in early 2026.
Project Overview
In the second phase of the project, we'll continue to repair or replace sections of approximately 60-year-old wastewater main pipes. This project is part of our larger Inflow & Infiltration (I&I) Reduction Program.
I&I is a problem where old, damaged pipes become inundated with excess water during heavy rain. Cracks or other deficiencies allow groundwater to seep into wastewater main pipes, resulting in significantly higher-than-normal flows. The sudden influx can overwhelm the treatment plant systems, potentially resulting in raw sewage overflowing into the river.
The result: Replacing or repairing faulty pipes reduces the need for frequent, costly “Band-Aid fixes” and protects our precious rivers by keeping raw sewage out.

Potential Project Impacts
We have carefully planned to minimize disruptions; however, affected areas may experience delays and temporary road or lane closures. During construction, heavy equipment and materials will be in the work area, which will be marked with cones and/or caution tape. There may also be some noise and dust during construction hours.
On-site crews will communicate directly with homeowners about any direct impacts.
If you're experiencing impacts beyond what's typical for construction, please contact us directly.
Project Schedule
Schedule Lookahead
| Week | Work Scheduled | Impacts |
|---|---|---|
| 11/4-11/7 | Mobilization. This means transporting equipment and materials to the project area, and performing pre-construction work. | Heavy equipment in the area, and possibly some noise. |
| 11/10-11/15 | Pipebursting and lateral replacement work on Cottonwood St. and La Cour Ct. Includes new manhole installation. | Heavy equipment in the area, and possibly some noise. Potential vegetation removal in easement. |
| 11/17-11/21 | Pipebursting and lateral replacement on Manewal Ln. Starting pipebursting work on Glen Echo Ave. | Heavy equipment in the area, and possibly some noise. Potential vegetation removal in easement. |
Private Improvements in Public Right-of-Way
In some locations, crews must work outside the public right-of-way in areas called easements or within undeveloped public right-of-way. Work crews will coordinate with homeowners with easements in or near their property.
